#13 SHIBORI The great wave off Kanagawa

In the previous blog#12, the load part on the ship which is the last dyeing part of this work was dyed in blue. In #13 this time, All the tied part will be untied and the whole work will be checked.

Before starting the untying work, fabric is dried in the drying room. The Kyoto shibori museum has a special drying room where the dyed fabrics are thoroughly dried.

And the boushi shibori and the Nuishime shibori part are untied. Since it is a work that uses scissors, the fabric is carefully untied so as not to tear the fabric.

Finally, the hitta shibori part (small dots) is untied. If you make a mistake in untying, you may tear the fabric. It is a serious responsible process. It is also a work that requires strength, and especially in the case of large fabrics like this work, physical strength is also required.

It looks like the fabric is pulled normally, but the thread cannot be untied just by pulling it normally. Advanced skill and experience are required.

The sound that comes out when the fabric is pulled is exactly 'The shibori sound', a unique sound of shibori.

Please check the video below.

All the shibori part is untied.

It is now possible to see the wave part, ship part, and the Mt.Fuji part, and the three-dimensional of white waves and blue waves in the large wave part has come.

There are still many work processes to complete before the giant screen is completed.

The details of the process will be updated soon.

To be continued
