Reproduced Hokusai's work with shibori

Two works of "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" and "Akafuji (Red Mt. Fuji)" with a width of 6.5 m and a height of 3 m will be exhibited at the same time! Please enjoy the craftsmanship of Kyoto.


「The Great Wave off Kanagawa」

From design to final sewing, this work was completed through more than 56 processes.

Three dimensional effect of shibori (white wave part, splash part, sky part, ship part) was created using 'Hitta shibori', 'Ko-boushi shibori', 'Chu-boushi shibori' and 'Nuishime shibori'.

Advanced shibori techniques such as 'Saka-boushi shibori', 'Taiko-boushi shibori' , 'Tako-boushi shibori', etc., were used to dye in various colors and dyed more than 10 times to complete.





「Red Mt. Fuji (Akafuji)」

Hokusai' s masterpiece, 'Gaifu Kaisei (Fine Wind, Clear Morning) is the motif of this huge kicho screen.

From design to final sewing, this work was completed through more than 22 processes.

Three dimensional effect of shibori (the sky, Mt. Fuji) was created using Hitta shibori', Miura shibori' and "Nuishime shibori.

Advanced shibori techniques such as 'Boushi shibori' and 'Oke shibori' were used to dye the sky part, Mt. Fuji part and snow on the of mountain.
