Our museum director introduces “Japan’s World Heritage Sites,” a shibori-dyed work created by a Kyoto shibori artisan and on display until the end of this month. This piece makes extensive use of dye-separation techniques, resulting in a distinctive sense of depth and three-dimensionality that differs from kanoko shibori , the style most closely associated with Kyoto’s shibori dyeing.
